We are a fellowship of people who have recovered from the illness of compulsive eating by following the program of action laid out in the book Alcoholics Anonymous , which is also called the Big Book. Our purpose is simple, clear, and outlined above. We are compulsive eaters, including bingers, grazers, bulimics, and anorexics. The way we have found to recover from compulsive eating is to follow the directions in the Big Book , taking the Twelve Steps swiftly and thoroughly with the guidance of a recovered sponsor , and helping other compulsive eaters in turn.
Having had a spiritual awakening as the result of these Steps, we tried to carry this message to compulsive eaters and to practice these principles in all our affairs.
Step We use the Big Book as our main text, studying it in meetings and with our recovered sponsors , because following the simple program of action in the Big Book is how we recovered from compulsive eating. Mission Statement? Today's numbers are much less. What is the solution? We want to tell the newcomer that there is a solution to alcoholism, we have had a spiritual awakening as the result of taking the 12 steps and we have recovered from a seemingly hopeless state of mind and body.
This is the message we hope to pass on tonight to those who still suffer from alcoholism by studying the Big Book of Alcoholics Anonymous. Each meeting commences with the collective group gathering in the Ridgeview Institute Day Hospital Auditorium. After a brief prelude together, everyone disperses to their respective meeting Foundation, Big Book Intro, or Study Guide. Speaker Meeting On Friday nights at Mount Vernon Presbyterian Church , we host invited speakers to share their story - "What we used to be like, what happened, and what we are like now" p.
We are students of the Big Book and do not consider ourselves to be an authority or speak for AA as a whole. Our only purpose is to be helpful and to pass on the information that when put into action, has helped us be free from alcohol.

The first part is the physical aspect. It is usually chemical in nature which is the case in sex addiction. As mentioned before, there is a neuro-chemical element that scientists are still only beginning to understand. The nature of the chemistry involved in addiction is a loss of control. Once addictive levels of the chemicals are introduced, it produces a craving for more of these chemicals.
We continue to act out to overcome this craving. The more we act out, the more we crave, and the whole process spirals out of control. This is the very essence of powerlessness. I will read a question and call upon a member to read the sentence out of the Big Book which is designed to be the answer.
Before we begin our study we are going to review a Tradition. If you are new to our group, if you have not attended a foundation meeting or you, as a veteran 12 Stepper, wish to improve on your own presentation of the first 3 Steps, we encourage you to attend this presentation. It is a great introduction to what the SAA Program and our group is all about: Freedom from our obsession with addictive selfish sexual behavior through the application and practice of our 12 steps as they were given us.
Please raise your hand if you would like to attend a foundation meeting tonight. If there is someone who wants to attend, select a veteran member to lead the foundation meeting. We realize we know only a little. God will constantly disclose more to you and to us. Ask Him in your morning meditation what you can do each day for the man who is still sick.
The answers will come if your own house is in order. See to it that your relationship with Him is right, and great events will come to pass for you and countless others. This is the Great Fact for us. Admit your faults to Him and your fellows.
Clear away the wreckage of your past. Give freely of what you find and join us. We shall be with you in the Fellowship of the Spirit, and you will surely meet some of us as you trudge the Road of Happy Destiny. Our 7th Tradition states that every group ought to be fully self supporting declining outside contributions.
If this is your first meeting, then please be our guest.
